Joint ROTC Dorm

SDSU first-year and sophomore students are required to live in the dorms if they live outside the SDSU service area.

First-year students

There are several communities students can decide to live with at SDSU. Army ROTC cadets may elect to live in the ROTC Dorm their first year, which is considered part of a “Thematic Living Community.” This is done by selecting the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps housing option in May when they choose SDSU Dorm.

The Joint ROTC Dorm is currently in University Towers (UT) on the corner of Montezuma & 55th streets. The building is shared with Athletes, "Quiet Study" and "Substance free" groups.

Living in the Joint ROTC dorm offers many benefits for our students, including:

  • Double rooms with a shared bathroom/shower with adjoining room. (Many dorms are triples/quads with restrooms down the hall.)
  • Residents may arrange to move in one week prior to the main dorms (early arrival fees will apply).  In addition, students are not required to vacate during breaks. (This helps avoid the crowds at move in/out time).
  • Special amenities including a "Star Center" with free tutoring and printing services, close proximity to PT fields, and a swimming pool.
  • Living with other cadets who are "like-minded" and respectful of early morning ROTC requirements.
  • University Towers offers assigned parking spaces at an additional charge. Note: SDSU First-year students are not allowed to have their cars on campus. However, if you feel that a car is necessary, a waiver request can be submitted here: https://parking.sdsu.edu/permits/first-year-resident

All admitted SDSU students required to live on campus need to complete the housing license agreement in their WebPortal by May 1, 2024.  Beginning May 2, 2024, you will have the ability to go back into your WebPortal and update your housing request to indicate your ROTC dorm request.

More information on housing can be found at housing.sdsu.edu.

Sophomore students

Rising sophomore students in the ROTC program may choose to opt out of the sophomore housing lottery and secure a suite with fellow ROTC students in Tepeyac before the lottery begins.

University of San Diego students: USD provides additional funding for room and board for AROTC Scholarship students only.  Either a 50% reduction or 100% if the cadet will work on campus.  Note: USD pulls back additional scholarship funding if cadets choose the room and board subsidy. Please talk to USD to ensure this has not changed.
