Sergeant First Class Carlos Taitano was born on Guam, a U.S. Territory in the South Pacific, in 1971. He is married to Melanie Taitano, and has a daughter, Marina Taitano. He enlisted into the U.S. Army in August 1991 as a 16S, Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS) Crewmember. He attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri and then Advance Individual Training at Fort Bliss, Texas.


His duty assignments include C BTRY 3/3 ADA, Fort Polk, Louisiana, C BTRY 2/5 ADA, Fort Hood, Texas, B BTRY 5/5 ADA Camp Hovey, Korea, B BTRY 1/2 ADA Fort Bliss, Texas, A CO White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, C BTRY 5/5 ADA, Fort Lewis, Washington, El Cajon Recruiting Station, SOCAL Recruiting Battalion, California, A BTRY 5/5 ADA Fort Lewis, Washington, and now currently assigned to San Diego State University.


SFC Taitano has held numerous positions which include Stinger/Avenger Gunner, Team Chief, and Section Sergeant, Bradley Stinger Fighting Vehicle Commander, Avenger and C-RAM Intercept Platoon Sergeant, Army Recruiter, Battery First Sergeant.


His military education and training include Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic and Advance Non-Commisioned Course He was later awarded an MOS as a 14S, Avenger Weapon Systems Crewmember. He attended the Navy’s Fire Control (FC) School on the US Naval Base, San Diego and earned his qualification on the Close-in Weapon Systems (CWIS). Other courses he has completed are; Combat Lifesaver Course, Movement Control Course, Surface Deployment Planning Hazardous Materials Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, Army Recruiter Course, Air Assault Course and Rappel Master Course. He also earned his Associates Degree in Technologies at Pierce College, Washington.


He deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) 07-09, as a Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (C-RAM) Intercept Platoon Sergeant.


SFC Taitano’s awards and decorations which include: Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (6OLC), Army Achievement Medal (9OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (5), National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (CS), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service (2), Army Recruiter Badge-Gold w/three Sapphires, and the Basic Marksmanship Qualification Badge-Expert.
